Birdie bread

My lovely human made me a new concoction yesterday, it was called birdie-human muffins. There was flour, flaxseed, apples, sugar, some baking soda and powder, raisins, various nuts, and milk. I loved it!! Of course I am only allowed to have a little piece per day.

Soon we are going back to the farmish land in Northern Virginia where I heard there is snow. Hopefully Sophie the puppy is too busy playing the snow and I can have peace in the warm cozy house.

I completely destroyed my straw toy! And another toy from the pet store. I am so talented. If only my humans understood my special language!

Hasta ahora for now!

Happy Thanksgiving

I had a nice time at the funny farm in VA. Sophie the puppy continues to respect me. I did not look too much at the turkey, me dio miedo! But I enjoyed seeing the whole darn family. The little brother has taken quite an interest in me. I don't quite trust his fingers but I sure do love riding around on his big shoulders, I feel so tall!
I ate tomatoes and clementines and I tried some mashed potatoes! :) I am happy now though to be in my mansion where I have a dish to bathe in. I was tired after the long trip in the car. Besos!

Bird-date, uptweetl

Just updating my loyal readers. I am doing well. Winter is coming, but I am not freezing thanks to my fluffy white feathers growing under my shiny grey coat.
I've been eating my cream of tweet, purchased when my human was guilty since she took me again to get my nails drummeled at the nice pet shop. This time there was a loud cockatoo, it scared my Spanish human.

I've been chewing on my straws, my Chinese finger traps and some palm leaves woven together that my human got me at the pet store!

Hello to Nani, the funny caique!

Update with the pup from South Charlotte

My theme song should be: "Lord I was born a traveling bird..." (thank you Allman Bros). I am updating from my human's friends' home in the Dilworth area. They apparently had to take me here because my apartment carpet is being cleaned (I'll believe it when I see it). At this house, there are two humans, a boy and a girl, they talked to me for a bit. But there is also a little fluffy dog who barks at me for no reason. I chirped back at her and she woofed again! Strange! I think she wants to play but my kind don't play with her kind. It would be unfair. My human did visit me but she also seemed to like this fluffball and they even went on a walk together... while I had to stay inside. Such is life. For now I will try to sit tight until I can return to my home in the Timbers. :) Pio chirping off for now...

I have been a busy busy birdy! I went to Bird Zone, a lovely pet store in Pineville, NC. There, a nice woman named Pam trimmed and filed my toenails and clipped my two longer flight feathers. It was hot and sweaty under that cloth when she used a special machine to drummel my nails. My human was more ruffled than I was. I also got some Island Treat Bird Food mix. Such a high quality mix of seeds, dried fruit and some sunflower seeds!! I love it!! My human and I then got back into the hot car, and went to another bird store, but they wouldn't let us in! It is a bird shop and adoption agency so they have strict health rules. The lady said I should get to the avian vet and have blood tests! EEEk. I think I am pretty healthy and if I were sick, my human would take me ASAP the the vet.

My human told me she went to an Exotic Bird Fair at the Metrolina Center in North Charlotte. At first I didn't believe her but then she brought me two great toys! one is filled with colored straws and small playing cards. I am chewing those up! the other toy is a lovely block with many rawhide knots. MMMMM!!

tweet you all later! I am chirping to myself while I rest atop my cage.

Photo shoot

This summer I had a photo shoot in Lovettsville, where my human's parents live. Apparently the father is a semi professional photographer.  I was a little nervous being outside but in the end I felt so pretty when I saw the final shots.

betrayal with a mini dog

My humans  left me last night to take care of Kadi the cockapoo! Traitors! They fed me but I was too nervous to eat. The newest addition to my birdie dish is babyfood, it is alright, kind of wet.  Now my humans are hanging out on their couch, in the usual position.  Ahhhh the good life.  Chirp you later.

Molting again!

I am molting yet again, I thought it was over.  My human looks worried but I seem fine, just a bit itchier, more urges to preen.  Life is returning to normal at Magnolia Hill Drive.  My Spanish human has been taking good care of me while my human goes to her morning job.
Feathers are falling all around my cage! Tons of them!

I have been eating my green beans and this lovely barley/bean mix that my human lovingly cooks up for me.  And I am enjoying my baths, I did not take too many when I was living in my travel cage because the bowl was too small!

reunited with my human

Finally my human came to see me.  I was beginning to get worried that she was kidnapped by her big brother.  I saw them leave together!  But she came back.  She told me she saw many birds in the place she went...called Costerrrrica.  Costa Rica, that´s it.  She saw oropendolas, red-lored parrots, hummingbirds, and many vultures (scary!).  There were also howler monkeys.  Lucky for me, I stayed in the family bed and breakfast where the mom fed me nice veggies, fresh parsley, fruit, and whatever was for dinner.  During the evenings, to pass the time, I mumbled incoherently and she seemed to enjoy this and chatted back to me.  Funny humans.
My wings grew out but then the dad and my human cut them back!  I can still fly a bit.
Hurray for family reunification!

In VA finally!

After a 7 hr car trip where I managed to eat some seeds and millet, I find myself in Virginia, a strangely familiar land. Perhaps it was winter when I was last here. This time there are more animals to be afraid of, most prominently the pup, Sophie. She watches me and makes me a little nervous. I eat well here, tomatoes and grapes and berries! MMM.
My humans brought me back a petCo rewards card to chew. So thoughtful.

happy hut time

Today I had a change of heart and when my human put me to sleep.  She says the corniest line - "Pio go night night."  So I went into my Happy Hut.  I have not slept there for a few months, since that evening I fell out, all the way to the bottom of my cage.  Now I am snoozing away, dreaming of popsicle sticks, bits of bread, seedpops, and chewable plastic.

getting used to my new cage

Tweet! I am getting used to my new cage so I can be comfy on my VA getaway.  I am molting now, little white bits of keratin are falling all over and I'm preening like CRAZy.  I go outside sometimes but it has been so hot here! And I chirp loudly when the lawnmower or the pool repairman goes by.  i got a real twitter account! i'm @pio_the_meyers.

My vacation home

Guess what fellow blogreaders!?!  I got a new vacation home (aka cage)  so that I can play outside without a cramped feeling and so I can travel this summer to Northern VA to be with my grandparents.  It has a triple roof, two pointed ones and one curved part.  I like it a lot.  I prefer being on it rather than in it.  But it seems comfy.  I will keep the tweets coming.  :)

favorite "toys"

I love chewing on gum wrappers and gum boxes! I know it is not good for me but I can't help it.  My human leaves them around.

I have been getting more comfortable in the shower lately.  I got soaking wet the other day and ended up with a mohawk.  Should I saw a avihawk hheheh.  Here is a photo or two.

I'm chewing on a q-tip but I should be preening my head!

Trying to dry myself on my human's clothes.  Such a life!

my human esta en casa

My human is now at home. The Census is over - I am sad for her but I am happy for the love and attention I will  get.  I am eating my jello colored and flavored popsicle sticks right now. Yum! The weather sure is muggy¡

vacation update!

We went to the NC High Country!! Tweeeeet!

We stayed here:  Linville Cottages

My humans visited Grandfather Mountain, Boone, Linville Falls, Blowing Rock, etc.

Next to our B and B there was a cock fighting farm!  They raise fighting cocks!! All day long cock-a-doodle-doooooo...nonstop....I much prefer the cardinals and finches of Magnolia Hill drive.

The owner of the B and B was British and he took a liking to me but I was very tired since we arrived late....Why were we so late?  My humans wanted to eat at Sonic so I ate some too, just a tiny bit and a little gordito boy asked me why I don't talk.  Do I look human?  But he said I should be on Animal Planet's funniest home videos.  Ha!

vacation weekend includes birds, yes me!

I am going on vacation with my humans, I am so excited I don't even realize it yet.  We are going to the mountains, to a cottage house, with breakfast included.  I guess that is why they call it bed and breakfast.

Lately it has been hot here, that is why I am only ready to play in the evenings, when my humans are home and open the windows to let me hear the wild birds singing.  So many robins, cardinals and starlings!

Hola to my friend Nani, she is such a pretty bird!

busy humans

Well my human got herself a full time job.  She leaves me home during the day but she does come home every evening as she promises on the way out the door.  At first I was super nervous staying home alone all the time but then I got used to it.  My other Spanish human comes home at other times too.  I am molting a bit since the weather is getting warmer.  Little white fluffs keep falling off my body.  Preen preen preen!!

My humans spend quality time with me on the weekend, when they are not at Costco, Target or the grocery store.  Then they come home with new foods for me!!

tweet tweet

No I am not on Twitter.  I have been tweeting and my human and she doesn't give me what I want.  What DO I want?  I am not even sure myself.  Attention and rice chex, nothing more.  Some walnuts too.  Those squirrels keep ringing the windchime outside.  But hey, I have a great life.  I am grateful.  Besitos!

so many humans

Last night my 2 favorite humans invited 5 other humans over.  From what I gather there were 3 guys and 2 girls.  One of the girls seemed to take an interest in me, and I let her scratch my head but I was very wary.  They mostly ignored me, leaving me free to observe them without disturbance.  They ate Ma Po Tofu and Noodle Salad.  Looked good,  i had some other bird appropriate food.    I went to sleep very very late!  I was tired but I had to be vigilant for my humans.

Today I helped my human clip coupons.  I chewed on the ones I thought she should save.  I might have chewed off the barcodes of some of them. oops.  I am cranky today since I did not get a lot of sleep last night.

new toys

Life is as usual.  Chirp, preen, eat, preen, bathe, preen, chirp louder.  My human has been making me some toys.  She wraps carrots, chickpeas, and bits of nuts in a piece of leafy lettuce or mustard greens, then wraps the whole bundle with hemp cord.  It is too much fun!!!

The weather here is crazy.  Today it is cold...I started sleeping outside my happy hut last week because it was warm enough but last night I was cold so I had to get inside the warm hut.  Now my Spanish human is snoozing on the couch and I have to think of a way to wake him up or at least get his attention!

Signing off now,
Pio the Meyers

Pio's back baby

I am back! My human bought me a new fruit, BANANA, I like it but not love it.  I also eat my grits for breakfast, plain of course, while my human puts honey and brown sugar on hers.  Those humans always think they can have more than us fids.

She is reading a parrot book, The Parrot Who Owns Me, the story of a scientist and Tiko the Red Lored Amazon.  She recommends it for all bird owners.

The weather here has been bad, I can only watch the squirrels and cardinals and finches eat through the heavy glass door.  I wish I could go outside and get some real vitamin D.  Sighhhhh.

I let Jenell take over my blog for one entry

Hello all, this is the human so frequently referenced on this blog.  I just wanted to let everyone know about Natural Mommie's blog event called "The Naturally Step into Spring" event.  She will be giving away eco-friendly gifts for moms and babies although this is not limited to Moms.  It sounds great and I am happy that someone is looking out for natural, sustainable products/stores in this world because I totally support these causes as well.   (Pio told me that he does too since organic foods and products are better for his health!)

weekend trauma

Well, this weekend was so traumatic that I could barely bring myself to write about it.  My loving human took me on an excursion to that pet shop, where they not only clipped my nails but they clipped my WINGS.  My human just about cried when the man did it, but they weren't her wings.  Then she took me to visit this little doggie who wished she could eat me.  Finally I got home, and I tried to fly to the kitchen but I fell to the floor.  So sad :(  I also could not balance that well on my perches when I tried to get to my food cup. ahhhhhhh.

But I will recover in a few days.  I was also a little traumatized when my human left me outside for a while.  The weather sure was nice, I wish I could go to the park with Kadi the puppy.  Que vida es ser un loro tan bonito...

flying away

I am good at flying now, I can reach the top of the fridge and I can aim very well for my owner's hand, head, or shoulder. I try to go to my Spanish human but he ducks!

Now I am busy imitating the bird noises and watching the birds come to the feeder. They come more often since it snowed. My humans had a three day weekend!

Chirp you later

Oscars are over and they were great!

I stayed up to watch half of the Oscars with my humans. Then they said, "birdy go night night" and I dozed off in my Happy Hut.

But I was informed this morning that SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE won best picture. So happy!!!

 = happy birdy and human!

they left me for a puppy

I have this hunch that they keep sneaking off to take care of Anne's puppy Kadi.  I am sure she is cute and all, but she couldn't possibly be cuter than me, such a little ball of feathers I am!

They did leave me proper food and water, big red grapes and a lovely green bean.  My newest food is tofu.  Although I have done some research that shows tofu and soy products make birds like me more hormonal.  my humans would not want to deal with me then.  I will just limit my soy intake each day.

My human got me a new toy which I shredded up very quickly.  I didn't even know I loved popsicle sticks, and these ones had colors! Wow.  My life is pretty good right now.  Can't wait for spring weather to soak up some Vitamin D on the porch.

my loving human is back!!!

My human is back from her trip. How I missed her scratches on my neck...and her loving attention.  But I must say, I feel like I have bonded with the European of the house.  He even cleaned my cage..I make such a big mess.  So now life has resumed as usual.  I chirp, she translates.  Then it is dinner time.  So relaxing.

it is almost my birdday!

I am a full fledged adolescent, I was born in Feb 2007, but I do not know the exact date.  I had my big molt already so I think my coloring is the adult one, although I like to think its prettier than other Meyers parrots.  I try to keep the yellow on my head and the top of my wings in shape, nice and preened.

Today I voluntarily climbed on to my Spanish human's arm so I could get off the floor.  I really hate being on the floor.  He enticed me with a walnut.  We are scared of each other, I could tell he did not like me from day one, so I decided that I would pretend to not like him. So there! Hmpf!

In case you are wondering what my human looks like, here is one photo, more to come soon!  She lets me get into her hair, even if only for a moment.

Cheese curls

They won't share their CHEESE CURLS!!!!

I tried so hard to get one and then my human snatched it right out of my mouth.  How can they expect me to stand by quietly as they crunch away...I ran to the bag, and tried to get them to spill out, then I ran to my humans mouth as she tossed the small handful inside, I hear the crunching and I know I am too late....then she tried to satisfy me with a Rice Chex, but I am easily pleased so I ate it.  I am so gullible.

Today I got a new perch made of natural wood that I can chew.  It is up high in my birdy-penthouse so I can reign over everyone. That made today so much better!  squawkyalater.

a lonely day...

My humans left me alone for almost the whole day :(  I am learning to like the country music station though.  They went out to eat paella with other Spanish people.  They came back with groceries and the only thing I got was a mustard green leaf.  It´s a little outrageous, don´t you think?  I miss seeing humans around my cage all day.  Besides you can see humans everywhere, even on TV, but how many Meyers parrots can you see on a daily basis?

Random comment: Jenell and I both love popcorn, fresh from the air popper purchased by her for $2 at the Salvation Army.  It works perfectly and I looooove eating and destroying those little white puffs.

i want my meat!

Did I mention how much I love meat?  I eat chicken, egg whites, and boca burger....mmmmm, I don´t think my ancestors in Africa were carnivores but here in America we do whatever we want.
My human left the country music station on for me this morning while she was out running errands.  I am not sure how much I actually like the music, but I stared at the wires a long time in hopes they would move closer to me so I could take a bite.  Chewing through wires feels so good, that is why my human tries very hard to keep my away from her white headphones that now have pieces of tape wrapped around my bite marks..heheheh.   Chewing hair bands is one of my other favorite games, I go on my human´s shoulder and grab her ponytail just to get the rubber band and then break right through that gummy elastic....nothing better!

I am going to eat a grape right now and make a huge mess all over the floor...I love hearing the slam when an object hits the ground.

The usual

Today was normal.  A little flying towards the kitchen, just trying to get my much deserved attention.  My human seems a little subdued, perhaps sad...I guess she needs a regular job...I should try to respect this and not squawk when she makes phone calls on skype.

Now I am napping, often finding the need to make noises while my beak is nestled in  my back, official Meyers nap position.   I have to keep an open ear for when the neighbors come home and slam their doors.  I also have noticed a SQUIRREL sneaking up on the deck, eating birdseed off the ground!  Desperate rodents, can't they see the seeds are for the little birds??

I miss my friendly uncles who took care of me on Winter Break when Jenell abandoned me.  They were pretty cool and gave me all sorts of nice treats.

I gotta  go....back to dreaming of piles of walnuts and kale leaves and bits of egg white...

Sunday, January 25, 2009

zzzzz....interrupted!

Vaya!  Esos seres humanos!  They came back at 12.30am and woke me up! I was livid, so then I had to eat some more seeds and watch them to make sure they were behaving.  We watched some Seinfeld until they fell asleep.  Until finally it was light out enough to start making some morning noise...and eat my orange for breakfast.

Attacking my Spanish human...

He wears these SouthPark pajama pants that I just want to grab with my beak and make sure all the characters are there.

If anyone was wondering why my name is Pio, I will share third-hand information I found out using my super hearing...Piopio means tweet tweet in Spanish, so I am basically  named Tweet  But Pio sure sounds better than Tweet, no offense to any other birds of that name.

Today I flew right to my owner's shoulder! Above the computer, across the coffee table, right to her shoulder! I scare myself sometimes, I do not know my abilities with flight.  Silly, since I am a bird.

I ate some cooked veggies for breakfast...mmmm...they are even more fun to throw on the ground!  When my human isn't watching I eat the dried corn from yesterday's meal, it is so  nice and crunchy.  Then when she caught me, she had to throw the other dried corn away!!  BOOO!

I hope you enjoy the photo of my on-the-wall trick!!  Note that the euros are real, imported from Spain.

A cozy night...

in my Happy Hut...it is green and fuzzy and keeps me warm on these chilly winter nights.  They make me sleep out here in my cage in the living room alone...so I climb inside my Happy Hut and dream of millet sprays and chewing plastic coin purses.

This morning was good, although I get agitated when my human doesn't bring me the food I want for breakfast.  And she tries to touch and cuddle me before I have a change to eat! Humpf! I want my green beans and I want them now.  Do you think I want a baby carrot for breakfast and a small grape?? No way!  Finally she got the message and I ate my morning greens.  Soon after that I figured out where she keeps a small dish with chopped walnuts.  She isn't as clever as she think she is.  Now I can fly over to the counter whenever I want and get them. Ha!  Sometimes I do the upside down trick when she says "roll down."  At least I try tolerate it.

Then we watched some TV together while my human typed away on her shiny white laptop, how I love to snap off the keys, but she gets so mad!  I wanted to listen to some music but she wouldn't let me! See the video if you don't believe me.

Later today...

My human went out for a while, I think she goes to volunteer as an interpreter because sometimes she talks to me in English and Spanish.  Today the weather was much better, there was a only a small draft coming in from the door with air in the 50s.  I get confused sometimes when my human talks to me in English and then Spanish.  Once I thought I understood when she says "un beso" but then I am not sure.

I hear when she comes home with the other human, I can hear them coming up the stairs, occasionally with grocery bags.  I always chirp to say hello and so they remember to open  the main door of my penthouse.  Usually when there are grocery bags I get ignored for a while and I hear shuffling around in the kitchen, but after that my human brings me a treat, maybe a green bean or a walnut.  Walnuts are one of my favorite foods!! I will let my human do that stupid trick where I go upside down for a few seconds just so I can get a little piece of one.

Hello and squawk, welcome, chirp, to my blog page

Hola, my  name is Pio.  I am a Meyers parrot, I live with my human Jenell in Charlotte, North Carolina.

My photo is above, aren't I cute?  I had a big molt after this photo was taken so my coloring is a little different.

Today has been busy so far, I decimated a gum box, I think it was Stride, nice and green! Smelled like spearmint!  I am learning how to fly again since my human let my wings grow out.  I hopped over to the couch where my human left her jacket and I am probably going to bite a hole in it and she will come over and take me away, put me back on my cage.  I will show you my Pio penthouse a little later.

Today I did a new trick, I flew onto the wall and hung on on to a postcard, but then I bit it adn it fell down, along with me.  I think my human took a video although I wasn't paying too much attention to her, I just wanted to eat the euros that my other human tacked to the wall.
